Darkness intimately meanders through the passage of time imperceptibly tracing the path from night to light. The every day activities of people done in partial or total absence of light makes it hard to decipher what the viewer sees or yet again makes the viewer see more carefully, a way to glimpse a deeper reality. Sometimes the people seem at ease with darkness its almost as if night is not meant to be lit. Yet we see children playing and struggling to study in darkness and that makes one question the comfort with the dark.

In Wube’s latest video “Darkness” (2021) the artist questions negative associations of the word, presenting it instead as “the alpha and omega,” a productive force behind the formation and existence of the universe and a condition leading to the possibility of light and images, as experienced in time. A continuous, fast-paced slideshow of black and white images culled from Google searches of compound words beginning with “dark” form the background for vivid animations of the same words, in an attempt to undermine any viewers’ preconceptions. Wube stresses that while blackness is visible because of the presence of light, darkness, defined as the absence of light, cannot be seen or therefore described.

A small community is besieged by vampires. After he watches friends ravaged in a convenience store, a lone avenger goes off to do battle with the undead, armed with shotgun, chainsaw, and Holy water. Later he finds other survivors and they try to stay alive long enough to do battle with Liven, king of the vampires.
