The “Breathe” project consists of a videoperformace in which we juxtapose two contradictory and incompatible elements, such as smoking and surgical masks. I am establishing elements of the absurd, on play, and spontaneity, made using a simple and short-term action. The work is based on the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, hence the use of the mask, as a metaphor for protection. Symbolizing smoke contamination, infection, intoxication of the lungs produced by the virus, since smoking affects the body in a similar manner.

breathe looks at the physical mechanics of the body while in the process of trying to calm a body during hyperventilation. The use of x-ray imagery and the awkward movement of a starkly contrasted body under stress attempts to illustrate the fragility of the human body performing such a basic yet vital routine.

Devon Deshaun Stewart
Prime-time star Tristin Mays plays the role of Charlotte, a woman battling her own inner demons as she pursues a questionable relationship against the wishes of her mother. Mays has surely been a consistent "heavy-hitter" in the realm of tv and film, but for this cinematic drama, she digs deep to get the tears flowing. Directed by first-timer Devon Stewart, this film explores the dynamics of both women empowerment and, to a degree, the depth of empathy.

The right to breathe and to feel the fall. Earthquake. Inside or outside. A connection through matter and its dissolution. The earth, the stone, the sand, the sea. Bodies. Connected. Dry flowers pushing out from the sand. Dissolving. Filled bodies, unstoppable. Earth bodies, floating inside or outside. The right to exist, to simply be.
