At his trial, Arthur defends himself but ultimately takes full responsibility for his actions, abandoning his Joker persona. Quinzel, upset by his decision, leaves him, and Arthur is found guilty of murder. However, chaos ensues when a car bomb outside the courthouse severely injures District Attorney Harvey Dent. Arthur escapes briefly but is later apprehended and returns to Arkham, where he meets a tragic fate.
