Clyde Fillmore
1876 - 1946He was born as Clyde Van Nuys Fogel to Millard Fillmore Fogel 1853–1929 Birth in Morgan County, Ohio, and Peninah H. "Nina" Hammond, Birth 1849–Morgan County, Ohio.
Clyde's maternal grandparents were Hannah(Scott) and James C. Hammond; Great grandparents were Ursula (Barnett) and John Gore Hammond of Morgan County, early settlers coming from Maryland to Virginia, to Ohio.
With Lea Penman, to whom he married in 1924, helped discover Marjorie Lord as a teen when Marjorie was a student at the school where they taught acting in New York city.
He was a dapper silent screen character actor, often in roguish roles. At Paramount in the 1920's, he rejoined this studio in the 40's as a small part supporting player. During the intervening years, he had a busy career on Broadway playing men of means or influence.

His character, known merely as "the boy," has been raised in an orphanage where he has caused as much trouble as possible. He finally can't stand living there anymore and runs away. On the streets he finds a friend in Mike (Ernest Butterworth), a newsboy. Mike teaches him how to survive but inevitably the boy gets hauled into court. However, the judge sees potential in him and hands him over to be adopted by a young politician. The judge, incidentally, is played by Judge Ben Lindsey, who was famous in his day for his efforts to give delinquent boys a decent chance in life.

Gail Ellis, a secretary, accompanies Professor Silas Griswold and his wife to China on an expedition to acquire antique vases. Curiosity draws her to the Shanghai slums where, unknown to Gail, her driver is participating in a scheme to abduct her. Gail escapes, but in the process is accosted by drunken sailors. Luckily, Rupert O'Dare, a young Englishman, is nearby and rescues Gail. He escorts her back to the hotel where he discloses his identity as a British secret service agent and proceeds to arrest the Griswolds for smuggling opium in antique vases. Gail then reveals herself as a member of the United States Secret Service and the two agents fall in love.

Hughie Ray (William Boyd), a pal of Tim's, comes to town and offers to take Milly back to the country to recuperate. She takes him up on his offer and after she has been there a while he proposes. But Milly has been told that her injury makes it impossible for her to bear children; since she knows that Ray loves kids she tries to leave him.
