The Garden of Bancharam

The story of an old peasant,Bancharam (Mitra),who defeats the tyrannical landlord Chhakari (Dey).Inheriting a dry patch of land, Bancharam converts it into a fabulous garden.The British magistrate supports him when Chhakari attempts to acquire the garden, after which he dies. Chhakari's son Nakari tries a new stratagem: he promises Bancharam Rs 400 every month provided Bancharam bequeaths his garden to the landowner after his death. Bancharam agrees but amazingly becomes healthier with every passing day, repeatedly promising to die but failing to do so.

The story of Dr. Mukherjee, a highly respected civil surgeon in a small tribal district headquarters. He is the beloved of the local people, and often comes in conflict with Laxman Lal, the tyrannical son of a local aristocrat. Laxman Lal lusts after a local widow who, in order to escape his advances seeks shelter with Dr. Mukherjee. As Dr. Mukherjee treats the poor he becomes even more entwined with their lives and their little problems. To the tribals he is a godlike figure, but to Laxman Lal he is an enemy.

A living human being's funny adventure in hell. The film focuses on the Hindi mythology of the God of Death and how his messengers snatches the life of any living being who has supposedly completed his days on the Earth. The story focuses on the mistake of two messengers who mistakenly pronounce a man dead even before he was supposed to be. Knowing of this goof-up, the god of death gets scared as no living person is supposed to enter 'Hell". Nevertheless, due to the good deeds performed by this human being while he was alive, he is given permission to travel to Heaven where he begins searching for his wife who had passed away sometime back.

Bhrantibilas is a 1963 Bengali film based on the 1869 play Bhranti Bilas by Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, which is itself based on William Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors. Although the original play was set in an unspecified, but distant past, the film relocates the story to modern day India. The film tells the story of a Bengali merchant from Kolkata and his servant who visit a small town for a business appointment, but, whilst there, are mistaken for a pair of locals, leading to much confusion.
