Cory Michael Smith (born November 14, 1986, in Columbus, Ohio, USA) is an American actor best known for his role as Edward Nygma in the series "Gotham" (2014–2019).

Smith grew up in Columbus in the family of David and Teresa (née Fagan) Smith and has an older brother, Chad. He graduated from Hilliard Darby High School in 2005 and considered various professions, including pianist and lawyer. While studying at Otterbein University, Smith participated in productions such as "The Scene," "The Caucasian Chalk Circle," "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" and "Tartuffe."

From 2009 to 2012, he performed in various regional theaters in New York City. Smith made his Broadway debut in the play "Breakfast at Tiffany's" in 2013. In the same season, he also appeared in Off-Broadway productions, including Mike Bartlett's "Cock aka The Cockfight Play" and Samuel D. Hunter's "The Whale."

Smith's first film role was in "Camp X-Ray," which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2014. He also starred in the short horror film "Dog Food," which debuted in March 2014 at the South by Southwest festival. That same year, he appeared in the HBO miniseries "What Olivia Knows?" and Todd Haynes's film "Carol."

Smith played Edward Nygma in "Gotham" from 2014 to 2019. He identifies as queer.
