The hour between dog and wolf, is an indeterminate time. It is the moment when day becomes night, when just briefly at dusk, one thing can be taken for another: friend for foe, sleep for death, you for me, dog for wolf. These scenes from a coast where the Roman fleet is thought to have first landed in Britain – in a language thought to be closest in sound to spoken Latin – are part of an ongoing philosophical enquiry set on the Isle of Thanet. The screenplay is adapted from writings by Virginia Woolf and Raul Ruiz.

A couple argues, a lethal twist of past and future plays out in ordinary lives. Adapted from Arthur Rimbaud’s enigmatic poems War and Fragments of Folio 12, this new interpretation of the poems offers a stark warning to an age where time – fragmented, decontextualised and stored as optical or auditory data – accumulates, while memory fades.

From A to B

The title is an oblique reference to Warhol’s The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B and Back Again) where Warhol famously spoke of his understanding of death. He didn’t believe in it, he said. His work, perhaps as a result, is a constant celebration of presence. This piece, using a methodology diametrically opposed to Warhol’s own, revisits stray elements (a seagull, reflections of the filmmaker in the window, a blinking light and so on) that pass incidentally through that moment of monumental presence we experience in ‘Empire’.

The ‘point’ series of short films (ongoing) are self-contained, flexible units that, over time and as they proliferate, can be brought together in different configurations. In terms of screening, this means that ‘new’ films can be built from units by an invited third party.

Olly Olly Oxen Free

The title refers to a phrase once popular in childrens’ games such as hide and seek. It signals either that players may come out into the open with impunity without losing the game, or there is a change of sides, or that the game is over.
