After years of touring abroad with his "Cirque Hollandais", Hendrik van Dalen returns to Holland, hoping that his brother will lend him financial support. Since the death of his wife, things have gone from bad to worse with Hendrik, who drowns his sorrow in drink. Moreover, he has set his heart on the circus-equestrienne, who pretends to love him but is having an affair with the company's wrestler. By encouraging Hendrik to drink, they hope to get their hands on his possessions. Hendrik's daughter sees through their designs and, with the aid of the clown Louisot, tries to foil their plans.

Judith, Count Robert de Bertan's daughter, is on holiday with her friend Louise and her father Marquis Emile de Fers. Meanwhile, banker Charles Delcourt has introduced De Bertan to the owner of a gambling-and-dance hall, Olga Tatschowas. De Bertan, unaware that his banker has lost the capital he gave him to invest at Olga's gambling tables, falls in love with Olga. He marries her, unaware that he is the victim of a plot hatched by Delcourt and Olga, who desires a title and De Bertan's possession.

Van Duylen, representative of a diamond syndicate, brings to Amsterdam the Koh-I-Noor II , the largest diamond ever found. In one of the city's oldest diamond-cutting establishments it is cleft and the nine small stones are polished. Escorted by detectives, Van Duylen takes the stones home and puts them in his burglar-proof safe. He tells his wife that its doors are electrically charged and that anyone opening them in the wrong way will immediately be electrocuted. Two suspicious persons, Jack the Acrobat and the lion-tamer Feenstra, prowl around Van Duylen's villa, inspecting the doors and windows.

Unaware of its contents, kind-hearted captain Beets delivers a package containing smuggled diamonds to Balthazar, the far from honest owner of an Amsterdam dance-hall. To double his profit, Balthazar shoots the innocent captain in cold blood and makes it appear as if Beets has committed suicide. The captain's daughter Eva and her sweetheart, young author Willy Vermeer, see through Balthazar's plans and will not rest until the criminal is punished for his deed.

Het wrak in de Noordzee ('The North Sea Wreck') is a fisherman's drama about the romance between the daughter of a Scheveningen captain and a young fisherman. Their love is threatened when another fisherman sinks the boat of his rival, and blackmails the girl's father to give away her hand in marriage. Eventually the missing fisherman pops up again, and marries his beloved. His criminal rival is punished.

A film about the making of a film. A director rehearses with actors and actresses some scenes from his pantomime about the death of Pierrot. The players then put on their costumes and make-up. In automobiles, all the members of the film crew are driven to a country estate where the film within the film is to be made and where the cameraman is seen turning the handle of his camera.
