В фильме рассказывается о муже и жене, которых стахановское движение превратило в новых людей. Шандор и Эстер Лугоши работают на заводе. Оба являются членами Коммунистической партии, но, Шандор не доволен своей жизнью и работой. Одна из причин его неудовольствия заключается в том, что его жена зарабатывает больше, чем он, а другая причина в том, что женщина даже приняла инновации, а он - нет. Шандор не понимает, что только вместе с коллективом он достигнет более высоких и лучших результатов. Когда Эстер направляется на учёбу в качестве образцового работника, между двумя супругами возникает разрыв. Эстер вернётся на завод после обучения в качестве инспектора Министерства промышленности. К тому времени Шандор уже знает о своих ошибках и правильном выборе своей жены. Он помогает раскрыть диверсантов, проникших на завод, и благодаря своей работе способствовал выполнению коллективного обязательства фабрики к 70-летию со дня рождения И. В. Сталина.
