Ali Abbasi (Persian: علی عباسی, born 1981, Tehran) is a Swedish-Iranian director known for his acclaimed films "Shelley" and "Border."

In 2002, Abbasi left his studies at the Tehran Polytechnic University to travel across Europe, eventually settling in Stockholm to study architecture. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in architecture in 2007 before enrolling in the Danish National School of Cinema for directing. Prior to his film career, he was a writer, publishing several short stories.

His debut feature, "Shelley," premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2016, where it was nominated for Best Debut. Abbasi's fantasy film "Border" premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018, winning the "Un Certain Regard" prize and gaining recognition as one of the most unexpected films in cinema history, according to critic Anton Dolin.

In 2022, Abbasi's film "Holy Spider" was featured in the main competition of the 75th Cannes Film Festival.
