Hasan Seyidbeyli
1920 - 1980Hasan Seyidbeyli was born on December 22, 1920 in Baku, the Azerbaijan SSR. In 1938-1939, he studied at Leningrad Institute of Film Directors. In 1942, his literary activity began. In 1943, he continued his education on the director faculty of the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (with S.Eisenstein and G.Kozintsev). Hasan Seyidbeyli is the author of such screenplays as To my dear nation (1954), Under the burning Sun (1958), On distant shores (1958), Soviet Azerbaijan, and Perfection. He is the author of screenplays and director of films such as Telephonist girl (1962), Why are you silent? (1962), Find that girl (1970), and Value of happiness (1976). Hasan Seyidbeyli is the director of "Nasimi", which was awarded the first-place prize at the VII All-Union Festival in Baku. From 1963 to 1980, he was the chairman of Azerbaijan Union of Filmmakers.

The film is a biographical true story about life of Imadaddin Nasimi, well known throughout the East for his school of philosophy and thought, poems and promotion of moral values in a feudal society. During the 14th-15th centuries, when Azerbaijan was a stage for warring powers and civil wars, Nasimi was the only poet committed to promotion of humanism and moral values inflicting criticism on the ruling system and the society itself. For his intruding role in feudal regimes, Nasimi lived a complex and tragic life.

Rasim, a young mechanic, meets Surayya and falls in love with her. But he is dragged into Shirmammad's wrongdoings; Shirmammad is Surayya's father and the leader of a gang of poachers. Realising his fault, Rasim tries to convince Surayya to stop trafficking in stolen fish. After a long period of reflection, Rasim becomes aware that he cannot go against his conscience, even for love's sake.

Действие фильма происходит на острове нефтяников, расположенном среди бушующего седого Каспия. Назим, один из главных героев фильма, направлен на работу в здешний Дворец культуры после окончания театрального института. Не из-за трудностей жизни хочет уехать Назим. Ему кажется, что все остальное, кроме того, что на острове добывают нефть, здесь временно, что профессия режиссера здесь не нужна. Не сразу понимает он, что где бы люди не находились, их жизнь должна быть многогранной и полной. Что эта духовная наполненность помогает преодолевать трудности. И что познание прекрасного как раз и дает ощущение полноты жизни.
