Coralie Fargeat (born 1976) is a French director and screenwriter known for her impactful films. She gained international acclaim with her 2017 debut feature Revenge, which won awards at various independent film festivals. Her second feature, The Substance (2024), a satirical body horror film starring Demi Moore, was screened in the main competition at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where she received the Best Screenplay award.

Influenced by filmmakers like David Cronenberg, John Carpenter, David Lynch, and Michael Haneke, Fargeat also draws stylistic inspiration from several South Korean directors.

Raised in Paris, Fargeat decided to pursue filmmaking at around 16 or 17 years old. She studied at Sciences Po and later attended La Fémis, a prestigious film school in Paris. While at La Fémis, she participated in Atelier Scénario, a screenwriting workshop where she was told her violent and graphic screenplay might never be produced.

During her time at La Fémis, Fargeat and a group of fellow directors formed a collective called La Squadra, where they collaborated on editing their films. They met twice a week, inviting industry professionals to share their experiences, which helped them gain a better understanding of the film industry and the logistics of storytelling.
