Maura Therese Tierney (born February 3, 1965) is an American actress known for her roles in NewsRadio (1995–1999), ER (1999–2009), and The Affair (2014–2019), which earned her a Golden Globe Award. Her film credits include Primal Fear (1996), Liar Liar (1997), Primary Colors (1998), Forces of Nature (1999), Insomnia (2002), Baby Mama (2008), Beautiful Boy (2018), The Report (2019), The Iron Claw (2023), and Twisters (2024).

Born and raised in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, Tierney is the eldest of three children in an Irish American Catholic family. Her mother Pat is a real estate broker, and her late father Joseph M. Tierney was a prominent Boston politician. Tierney attended Mount Alvernia Academy and Notre Dame Academy, where she studied drama, before majoring in drama at New York University.

Tierney married actor-director Billy Morrissette in 1993, but they divorced in 2006. She officiated the wedding of her ER co-star Parminder Nagra in 2009. That same year, Tierney underwent surgery for breast cancer, which led her to leave the show Parenthood and be replaced by Lauren Graham. She finished treatment and returned to acting in 2010.
