James Remar (born December 31, 1953, in Boston) is an American actor known for his character roles. He gained popularity through his appearances in films, video games, and television shows. He is best known for his role as Kim Cattrall's boyfriend in the series Sex and the City, as Harry Morgan in Dexter, and as an agent in The Inside. He also played Raiden in the second installment of the Mortal Kombat franchise.

James Remar, born on December 31, 1953, in Boston, Massachusetts, began his career without completing high school and worked in a rock band. He later studied acting under Sanford Meisner at New York's Neighborhood Playhouse.

He made his film debut in 1978, playing a street drifter in The Warriors. His notable role as the punk Ajax in the film The Warriors (1979) brought him popularity. In 1984, he successfully performed on stage in a duet with Richard Gere. Remar became well-known for his roles as villains and tough guys, including a killer in 48 Hrs. (1982), Dutch Schultz in The Cotton Club (1984), and a police officer in Drugstore Cowboy (1989).

He also appeared in Sex and the City and, starting in 2006, played the role of the main character's adoptive father in Dexter. Remar has voiced characters in animated series, including Vilgax in Ben 10: Alien Force and Tonraq in Avatar: The Legend of Korra. In 2010, he was a guest star on the series Private Practice.

In 1984, he wed Atsuko Remar, and they have two children together. He is also able to speak conversational Japanese.

In 1985, Remar was dismissed from the cast of Aliens following his arrest for drug possession.
