A plastic bottle performs a tap dance, hopping up and down, tapping off wild rhythms like a Broadway dancer. At first glance, the bottle seems to be simply thrown around by gusts of wind, but as the dance intensifies, it becomes more and more apparent that the bottle is rebelling against the wind, not following it. Finally, the bottle leaps into a different space, which has subtly revealed its presence more than once during the dance but seemed so far from this bustle and flurry and the chiaroscuro on the concrete steps.

In the video-poem Short Circuits, the documentary is transformed into dreams. The common actions people perform in everyday life become strange rituals. Metaphorical, imaginary connections between objects and events are shown as objective, real. The properties of a thing are manifested in another. The ordinary meets the supernatural.

Out of Autofocus
Mikhail Basov
In the video work “Out of autofocus” a common glitch in the autofocus function becomes an artistic technique. Gulls soaring over the sea cross the space of a static shot, entering and exiting it, while the camera struggles to find the focus point – and succeeds only for a few short moments. Finally, one of the gulls is caught in the focus. From this moment on, it is caged in a magic trap and has to find its way out.
