Mark Richard Hamill, born on September 25, 1951, is a renowned American actor and writer, best known for his iconic role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars saga and as the canonical voice of the Joker in animated series and video games.

Hamill was born in Oakland, California, to William Hamill, a U.S. Navy captain, and Susan, a homemaker. Due to his father's military career, the family frequently moved, and Mark lived in Virginia, New York, and Japan, where he graduated from high school. As one of seven children, he enjoyed the freedom to explore various interests, which fostered his passion for the arts and entertainment.

At six years old, Hamill spent a week at a theater in New York City and didn't miss any film premieres on the military base in Japan. His first acting experience came at 12, when he stepped in for a late actor during a school play. In 1969, at his older brother's wedding, he met composer Michael Franks, who invited him to participate in a theater production.

Before the premiere of Star Wars, Hamill began dating dentist Marilou York. Their relationship faced challenges after the film's sudden popularity, but they eventually married in December 1978 in a modest ceremony. The couple has three children: Nathan, Griffin, and Chelsea. Although their home in Malibu is small for a large family, Hamill has no plans to relocate.
