Lee Daniels (born December 24, 1959) is an American film and TV producer, director, and screenwriter. He debuted with Shadowboxer (2005) and gained acclaim for Precious (2009), which earned him Academy Award nominations. His other films include The Paperboy (2012), The Butler (2013), The United States vs. Billie Holiday (2021), and The Deliverance (2024). He produced Monster's Ball (2001), The Woodsman (2004), Tennessee (2008), Pimp (2018), and Concrete Cowboy (2020).

Daniels co-created and executive produced TV series Empire (2015–2020) and Star (2016–2019), both focused on the music industry.

Born in West Philadelphia, Daniels is the eldest of five siblings. After his police officer father was killed in the line of duty in 1975, Daniels graduated from Radnor High School in 1978. He currently resides in Manhattan and is openly gay. Daniels and his former partner, casting director Billy Hopkins, adopted Daniels' niece and nephew.
