Malcolm Mowbray
2021Malcolm Mowbray (born 1949) is a British screenwriter and television and film director.
Mowbray began his career in television, directing episodes of Premiere, BBC2 Playhouse, and Objects of Affection. In 1984 he turned to feature films with A Private Function, which he directed and co-wrote with Alan Bennett, with whom he shared the Evening Standard British Film Award for Best Screenplay. Additional credits include Crocodile Shoes, Out Cold, Cadfael, Pie in the Sky, Don't Tell Her It's Me, Sweet Revenge, and Monsignor Renard.

In the summer of 1947, Britain prepares to commemorate the wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillip. To get around food-rationing laws, Dr. Charles Swaby, accountant Henry Allardyce and solicitor Frank Lockwood are fattening a black-market pig for the big day. Thus Sunny hires Lester Atlas as private investigator in order to collect proof for the divorce. One evening drunken Ernie and his partner Dave have a fight in the butcher shop with Ernie getting knocked out in the fridge where he dies during the night. But it was not Dave's fault but intentional murder by Sunny. Only Lester has proof so Sunny kills him, too. Thus she only has to kill Dave to get rid of all witnesses, but he can free himself out of the fridge and wants to take revenge.
