Michael Showalter (born June 17, 1970) is an American comedian, actor, director, writer, and producer. He gained recognition on MTV's The State (1993-1995) and co-created the Wet Hot American Summer franchise with David Wain, co-writing and starring in the original film and the Netflix series. Showalter wrote and directed The Baxter (2005), starring alongside Michelle Williams, Justin Theroux, and Elizabeth Banks. He is also a co-creator, co-producer, actor, and writer for the TV series Search Party and directed the critically acclaimed film The Big Sick (2017).

Born in Princeton, New Jersey, Showalter is the son of Elaine Showalter, a feminist literary critic and professor, and English Showalter, a professor of 18th-century French literature. He has one sister, Vinca Showalter LaFleur, a speechwriter. He attended Princeton High School and shared an apartment with comedian Andrea Rosen for five years.

Showalter married Anne Kalin Ellis on January 16, 2011, in New York. The couple has a pair of twins, born in 2014.
