In one of the prestigious restaurants during banquet speech a large company's director Palmgren is killed in front of dozen guests . Case is lead by Criminal Investigation Officer Pierre Monson with his assistants. Suspect can be easily intercepted if only miserably lazy police officers Kvant and Kristiansson instead of catching criminal would not argue with father of little 3 years old boy who yelled: "Police, police, mashed potatoes" when they ate hot dogs. Help comes from capital in form of the famous Commissioner Martin Beck, who discovers that murdered industrialist was involved in illegal activities and had many enemies. The case is linked as well with government's "higher ends".

A lifeboat floats ashore at the coast of Skåne. Inside are two dead men who who've been murdered. Policeman Kurt Wallander is assigned to the case. The men are identified with the help of the police in Latvia. One of their officers travel to Sweden to to help but when he returns to his home country he is mysteriously murdered. Kurt flies to Riga to find out why and is drawn into complex conspiracy.

Так сложилась жизнь двух пожилых сестёр Паулины и Лизбет, что не были они никогда невестами и не гуляли на своих свадьбах. Активная и романтичная Паулина предложила сестре заработать немного денег на сборе грибов и купить себе дорогие и красивые платья для предстоящих когда-нибудь похорон. Не отказывая себе, сёстры купили ещё и ультрамодные парики. Дамы стали настолько красивы в обновках, что решили запечатлеть этот момент и вызвали фотографа. Паулина устроилась в гробу, желая понять, как она будет там выглядеть. Ожидая мастера она незаметно уснула, и фотограф был в полной уверенности, что снимает почившую старушку. Когда в ответ на произнесённые в её адрес комплименты, «покойница» встала и заговорила - у бедного художника случился такой шок, что он сам едва остался жив. После цепочки забавных событий, действие заканчивается настоящей свадьбой, и про похороны уже никто даже не вспоминает.
