2000 (26 лет)Let's start with the important stuff. Not where I was born, or how many times I've yelled at runners (to clarify - I have never yelled at a runner). What do I want from film? From my films? I want to take audiences somewhere they don't want to go; somewhere they didn't know they wanted to go until they got there; to find the dark soul of the night and camp there for a few hours. No tent, just a sleeping bag with a small tear at the bottom so my feet dangle out. I want to get inside the heads of people we all think we can understand and shed new light and perspectives on questions we thought the answers to were obvious. But I also want to make some really really REALLY dumb comedies.
Fresh out of highschool (or college for the US folk) I wrote and directed a short comedy film that still hasn't been released yet. My friends and uni lecturers think it's pretty funny. And so do I. Hopefully I'll release it pretty soon. But music licensing is fun, as you know...
After that I spent Summer Holidays writing and producing a few more short films with my friend. Now in my 2nd Year of University I have shot a tense dialogue-less experimental film, another 3 comedies - and I also produced short atmospheric documentary.
I promise I don't just write comedies - I just need a break from the more harrowing content of my more ambitious ideas...
Working in smaller crews and casts of 3 or 4, I have generally been writing, acting, lighting, shooting and editing many of these projects, giving me a wider skillset and appreciation for those who have been doing it longer and better than me. I know the Writer/Director combo gets a bad reputation in film schools, but I like to think that I always put the film and the story above my own (hopefully) self-aware ego. Furthermore, I don't have the infuriating mindset that I HAVE to direct every project I'm involved in. Need a boom op? Okay, I can do that. Yeah, I have my own kit too, just in case.
