Stephen John Coogan (born October 14, 1965) is an English actor, comedian, writer, and producer. He is a five-time BAFTA Award winner and a two-time nominee for both the Academy Award and the Golden Globe.

Coogan was born in Manchester to an Irish family and is the third of six children. He studied at the Manchester Polytechnic School of Theatre and began his career as a stand-up comedian in radio and television comedy programs.

He gained popularity through his work on the puppet show Spitting Image and the sitcom I'm Alan Partridge (1997–2002). His film debut came with Resurrected (1989), followed by roles in The Indian in the Cupboard and The Wind in the Willows.

In 2001, he founded Baby Cow Productions and released the successful film The Parole Officer (2001). In 2002, Coogan played Tony Wilson in 24 Hour Party People.

He is also known for his roles as Phileas Fogg in Around the World in 80 Days (2004), Roman senator Guy Octavius in the Night at the Museum trilogy, and Hades in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010). Coogan produced, co-wrote, and starred in Philomena, for which he received two Academy Award nominations and a Golden Globe nomination.

Coogan has a daughter, Clare Coogan-Cole (born 1996), from his relationship with solicitor Anna Cole. He was married to Caroline Hickman from 2002 to 2005.
