Joseph Peter "Joe" Pantoliano (born September 12, 1951, Hoboken, New Jersey, USA) is an American actor, producer, director, and screenwriter, and an Emmy Award winner. He is known for portraying "villainous" characters, such as Cypher in "The Matrix" (1999), Detective Teddy in "Memento," and Ralph Cifaretto in "The Sopranos." He has appeared in over 100 films and TV series, including " M*A*S*H" and "NYPD Blue."

Pantoliano was born into a working-class Italian family in New Jersey.

In 1987, he had a small role in Steven Spielberg's film "Empire of the Sun."

In 2003, Pantoliano replaced Stanley Tucci in the Broadway production of "Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune" and won an Emmy Award for his role as Ralph Cifaretto in "The Sopranos."

In October 2007, he revealed that the film "Canvas" helped him cope with depression, which he had struggled with for 10 years, and expressed his desire to help others with similar issues. Pantoliano also suffers from dyslexia.

Pantoliano was married to Morgan Kester from 1979 until they divorced in 1985. He married his second wife, former model Nancy Sheppard, in 1994; they have four children together, and reside in Connecticut. He was introduced to Sheppard by actress Samantha Phillips.
