Valentina Brumberg
1899 - 1975Одна из сестёр (старшая) Брумберг, долгие годы проработавших вместе над созданием мультфильмов, многие из которых стали классикой советской мультипликации.
Родилась 2 августа 1899 года.
В 1924 году, окончив ВХУТЕМАС, вместе с перспективными молодыми художниками поступила на службу в первую экспериментальную мультипликационную мастерскую при Государственном техникуме кинематографии.
На сцене Московского театра для детей в 1927 году режиссёром Наталией Сац впервые вводится мультипликация в качестве одного из элементов спектакля. Сёстры Брумберг работают над постановками «Негритёнок и обезьяна» и «Про Дзюбу».
Первый период творчества характеризуется реалистичной манерой анимации. В 1960-е годы начинаются поиски и эксперименты, приведшие к появлению работ, отличающихся от привычных. К примеру, в 1961 году выходит фильм «Большие неприятности», нарисованный в стиле детского рисунка. Несмотря на разноплановость работ, в каждой из них узнаётся стиль мастера. Фёдор Хитрук говорил о сёстрах Брумберг:
Есть такое выражение «светлая память». Я думаю, что к сестрам Брумберг более всего подходит «светлая и весёлая память». Я их помню именно такими — шумными, энергичными невероятно, в какой-то степени даже легкомысленными и несерьёзными в работе. Хотя я знаю, что они очень много и тщательно готовились к своим картинам. А вообще мне приятно просто их вспоминать, потому что я сам становлюсь моложе, веселей и энергичней. Возвращается что-то потерянное…

It is a satirical film for adults about family, the father is an embezzler, the daughter is a hunter for favorable gentlemen, and the son is a blockhead and a drunkard. The offscreen text is the story of the little girl who repeats idiomatic expressions which she doesn’t understand ("he has set going the refrigerators ", "he whips vodka", "he has lost his head"...) and these idiomatic expressions are shown in as they are represented in her mind – in the literal sense. It is one of the first films of "new", "non-Disney" Soviet animation.

The Lost Letter (Russian: Пропа́вшая гра́мота, Propavshaya gramota), or A Disappeared Diploma, is a 1945 Soviet animated film directed by the Brumberg sisters and Lamis Bredis. It is the first Soviet cel-animated feature film. It was produced at the Soyuzmultfilm studio in Moscow and is based on the story with the same name by Nikolai Gogol.

The story is about three sisters. The youngest is chosen by Tsar Saltan to be his wife. He orders the other two sisters to be his royal cook and weaver. They become jealous of their younger sister. When the tsar goes off to war, the tsaritsa gives birth to a son, Prince Gvidon (Gvidón.) The older sisters arrange to have the tsaritsa and the child sealed in a barrel and thrown into the sea. The sea takes pity on them and casts them on the shore of a remote island, Buyan. The son, having quickly grown while in the barrel, goes hunting. He ends up saving an enchanted swan from a kite bird. The swan creates a city for Prince Gvidon to rule, but he is homesick, so the swan turns him into a mosquito to help him. In this guise, he visits Tsar Saltan's court, where he stings his aunt in the eye and escapes. Back in his realm, the swan gives Gvidon a magical squirrel. But he continues to pine for home, so the swan transforms him again, this time into a fly.
