She was introduced to Tollywood in 1974 by Vittalacharya in the movie he produced, Aadadani Adrustam. She acted in several Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam movies. She learned dancing from Heeralal master. She acted in Hindi movies too. She had a dance number in Shalimar (1978), starring Rex Harrison, Dharmendra and Zeenat Aman, which were in both English and Hindi versions. She also had a raunchy dance number, which was provocatively titled "Maamalu Maamalu Baavalu Baavulu", in the movie Maha Shaktimaan. Her sister Jyothi Lakshmi was also a cabaret dancer in films.

Satyam (N.T. Rama Rao) is a youth leader and Panchayati Board President. He interferes with the ex-President of the board, Rudrayya (Rao Gopala Rao) from executing his corrupt practices. Satyam and Rudrayya's daughter, Savithri (Jayapradha) are in love and plan to get married. So Rudrayya gets Satyam killed with the help of a professional killer (Prabhakar Reddy). Satyam immediately goes to heaven. He angers the King of Heaven, Indra (Kanta Rao) while he enjoys the dance by Rambha, Urvasi and Menaka. He sends him straight to hell headed by Yama (Satyanarayana) and ably assisted by Chitragupta (Allu Ramalingaiah). In hell, he influences the soldiers of death, Yama's army using communist theories and rights of labor, and turns them against their leader-Yama, and Hell shuts down. Yama sends him back to Earth. Yama and Chitragupta visits Earth on a holiday trip and experiences the funny aspects of Humans. Satyam changes his name and teaches Rudrayya a lesson.

A young man Raghu sets up an explosive in a railway track to blow up a train. Raghu is a freedom fighter who wants to destroy the train in which British officers are travelling. When police comes to arrest Raghu, his father hands him to them but Raghu's pregnant wife Parvati diverts the police and lets her husband escape. Raghu escapes in his bike and meets with an accident and is declared dead. Parvati gives birth to a son named Ashok and ten years pass by.
