Alexandre Jouan-Arcady, professionally known as Alexandre Aja (born August 7, 1978), is a French filmmaker renowned for his contributions to the horror genre. He gained international fame with his 2003 film Haute Tension, released as High Tension in the U.S. and Switchblade Romance in the UK. Aja has also directed notable films like The Hills Have Eyes (2006), Mirrors (2008), Piranha 3D (2010), Horns (2013), and Crawl (2019).

His surname, Aja, is derived from the initials of his full name. Born in Paris, he is the son of Alexandre Arcady, a Jewish French pied-noir director, and cinema critic Marie-Jo Jouan. Aja began his career in minor acting roles in his father's films before making his directorial debut at eighteen with the short Over the Rainbow, which was nominated for a Cannes Golden Palm. He became well-known in the horror genre with Haute Tension and later directed the remake of The Hills Have Eyes at the request of Wes Craven.

In addition to Mirrors and Piranha 3D, he produced the 2012 remake of Maniac and directed Horns and The 9th Life of Louis Drax. Aja is set to direct adaptations of Space Adventure Cobra and Mice and Mystics for DreamWorks Animation. His 2019 film Crawl is his most successful and critically acclaimed project to date.
