Federico Álvarez (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈfeðe]; born February 9, 1978) is a Uruguayan director, writer, and producer. He is best known for directing the films Evil Dead (2013), Don't Breathe (2016), and Alien: Romulus (2024).

Federico Álvarez, the son of Uruguayan writer and historian Luciano Álvarez, made his first short film, "Los pocillos," at age 23 with Claudia Lasso. In 2009, he released the short film "Panic Attack!" on YouTube, leading to a contract with Ghost House Pictures. His debut feature, "Evil Dead," was a success, earning over $50 million in the U.S. against a $17 million budget. Instead of sequels, he directed the thriller "Don’t Breathe," which was well-received when it came out in 2016. Álvarez turned down an offer from Marvel Studios to maintain creative control. Recently, he was offered to lead the project "The Girl Who Got Caught in the Spider's Web," a sequel to "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" from 2011.
