After releasing eleven self-produced albums, Russ signed with Columbia Records for his twelfth album, There's Really a Wolf (2017), which achieved platinum status and included his first Billboard Hot 100 hits, "What They Want" and "Losin Control." His subsequent albums, Zoo (2018) and Shake the Snow Globe (2020), both reached number four on the US Billboard 200, with the latter featuring his highest-charting single, "Best on Earth" (featuring Bia). He is also a member of the Atlanta-based hip-hop collective Diemon.
Born in Secaucus, New Jersey, Russ is of Sicilian descent and grew up moving between North Carolina, Kentucky, and finally settling in Atlanta. He learned to play guitar from his father and started writing raps at age 7. By 14, he was making beats with his friend Bugus, and recorded his first song at 18. Russ has heterochromia, with one eye dark brown and the other light brown.
